Abstract and Non-Representational

Fountains

Though often based on organic forms, these pieces are intended to create impressions without relying on the narrative qualities of the human form.

I have always been interested in how the active qualities of water enlivens a sculpture, not just the spouting of water but the play of light across the surface of the bronze. It seems to make organic forms more realistic; not frozen but in the process of creation, similar to a plant growing.

Animal Maquettes

Small Objects d'Art

Before Sculpture, my declared college major was Zoology with specific interest in field studies of animal behavior. My passion persists and has led me to the creation of these small naturalistic representations, many of which have been scaled to life size. My attempt is to reflect the "personality" of not only a species but an individual without anthropomorphizing.

As stated before, "bigger isn't always better" and hopefully these sculptures are proof. The scale of these pieces lends to their preciousness. Each bears the obvious signs of being hand crafted; the detail being caught in bronze through the "lost-wax" process and all hand finishing done with the same attention afforded the larger sculptures but intended for the beginning collector or as a functional item.

Large Figurative Pieces

Stones

For me, sculpture is about defining space and scale must be considered in the overall mood created by a piece. Bigger isn't always better. Subtlety and introspection must juxtapose the dynamism and sheer presence in a larger piece.

Smaller pieces demand that each view of the sculpture entice the viewer into following the form to experience all aspects of a piece while giving an instant impression of what the piece is all about. My goal is to make sculptures that are not only easy to look at but go beyond mere decoration without shouting my agenda from a soapbox (or a pedestal!). These large scale pieces are intended for interactive experience at zoos and other institutions. They create a sensational contribution to the presentation of exhibits while facilitating benefactor involvement in fundraising. Every attempt has been made to make these pieces "kid-friendly" to promote the up-close and personal experience to increase visitor interaction while providing permanent improvement to the facility.
